Commercial fur harvesting and trophy\u003cbr\u003ehunting decimated populations of polar bears leading to an agreement between the\u003cbr\u003efive nations where polar bears live. In 1973, the US, Russia, Canada, Greenland and\u003cbr\u003eNorway entered into the International Agreement on the Conservation of Polar\u003cbr\u003eBears. The treaty outlawed aircraft hunting, banned commercial trapping, and\u003cbr\u003esuccessfully allowed global populations to rebound.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe artwork was inspired by and incorporates the original vintage postal stamp. The\u003cbr\u003eimage started with a photo transfer to art paper. I used gouache paints, gel and ink\u003cbr\u003epens, stamps, printed patterns, and and postal stamp photo transfers to create the\u003cbr\u003efinished collage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e4.5\"x 6.5\" artwork, 8\"x 10\" matte\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv dir=\"auto\"\u003e50% of the proceeds from this piece will be donated to WWF Arctic Programme to support their conservation efforts.
