At that\u003cbr\u003etime, US Fish and Wildlife began a recovery program that involved capturing all the\u003cbr\u003ebirds and breeding them in captivity. Eventually this led to the population increasing\u003cbr\u003eand now they can count over 600 birds both free and in captivity. In June of this year,\u003cbr\u003e2026, the first free flying Condor was seen in Oregon. There had not been a sighting\u003cbr\u003esince 1904. One of the main killers of Condors is lead poisoning. The Condor is a\u003cbr\u003escavenger, cleaning the forest by eating carrion, but they often eat lead bullets\u003cbr\u003eleading to poisoning. This can be stopped by not using lead bullets.\u003cbr\u003eThe artwork was inspired by and incorporates the original vintage postal stamp. The\u003cbr\u003eimage started with a drawing of a condor. (I believe made this generally ugly animal\u003cbr\u003elook very cute!) I painted the drawing digitally, printed it, and photo transferred it onto\u003cbr\u003eart paper that I marbleized with inks. I used gouache paints, other prints, photos,\u003cbr\u003estencils, and postal photo transfers to create the finished collage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e4.5\"x 6.5\" artwork, 8\"x 10\" matte\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv dir=\"auto\"\u003e50% of the proceeds from this piece will be donated to Yurok Condor Restoration Program to support their conservation efforts.
