Alyssa Danielle- Axolotl and African Wild Dog

Fired ceramic hand-painted with acrylics. This series merges threatened animals from the IUCN Red List into single organisms to highlight global habitat loss. To make a heavy topic easy to digest, I sculpt these creatures with a friendly, nostalgic, teddy bear-like aesthetic. This approachable design invites viewers to connect deeply with wildlife conservation rather than turning away from it. This piece combines an Axolotl and an African Wild Dog. Axolotls (Ambystoma mexicanum) are Critically Endangered; fewer than 1,000 mature individuals remain in the wild due to water pollution and urban development in Mexico City's canals. The African Wild Dog (Lycaon pictus) is considered Endangered. Its global population of mature individuals sits at fewer than 1,700, suffering an alarming 17% decline over the last three generations driven by habitat fragmentation and conflict with humans.
