Fired ceramic hand-painted with acrylics. This series merges threatened animals from the IUCN Red List into single organisms to highlight global habitat loss. To make a heavy topic easy to digest, I sculpt these creatures with a friendly, nostalgic, teddy bear-like aesthetic. This approachable design invites viewers to connect deeply with wildlife conservation rather than turning away from it. This piece combines a Black Rhino and a Giant Panda. Black Rhinos (Diceros bicornis) are Critically Endangered; a severe poaching crisis reduced their numbers by 96% in the late 20th century, and despite steady recovery efforts, only around 6,700 remain in the wild. The Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is considered Vulnerable. While intensive, decades-long habitat protection in China successfully pushed them back from the brink of extinction, their populations remain highly fragmented and dependent on vulnerable bamboo ecosystems.
