When I was a kid, growing up in Ontario, we would see turtles walking across the road and would stop the car to help them cross safely. This experience every spring and summer grew my love of turtles and small creatures. I have chosen to support the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre because of the work they do with injured turtles, where my family would take them if we found injured ones. Green Sea Turtles are no longer endangered, due to conservation work from many organizations, however, they still need monitoring like lots of turtle species. Green Sea Turtles are also a Keystone species, helping maintain seagrass ecosystems, making them a very important species to other animals and plants.
Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (home of Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre) is a registered charity whose goal is to protect and conserve Ontario’s native turtles and the habitat in which they live. They accomplish this by operating a turtle hospital that treats, rehabilitates, and releases injured turtles, and by performing extensive research in the field to further conservation initiatives.
50% of the proceeds from this piece will be donated to Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre to support their conservation efforts. To learn more about their work please visit https://ontarioturtle.ca/
