Brooke Thivierge- Sea Lion Mug

This is a handcrafted, wheel-thrown ceramic mug that evokes the mystery and movement of the ocean. The exterior is covered in a rich, deep purple glaze that gives the surface a sense of depth and fluidity. Carved green seaweed on one side of the mug, interspersed with appliqued fish that appear to swim in and out of the textured surface, especially around the intricately detailed handle.

The handle itself is a standout feature—heavily carved with a seaweed texture and embellished with additional appliqued plant life at both the top and base, creating a tactile, sculptural element that connects visually and thematically to the rest of the design.

Inside, the mug contrasts beautifully with a bright turquoise blue glaze, reminiscent of tropical ocean waters. The focal point of the mug is a lifelike, hand-painted sea lion, rendered with delicate brushstrokes that capture the fine details of its fur and whiskers, giving it both personality and realism.
