Diego Matiz- Legacy of the Andes

Legacy of the Andes portrays the spirit of an Andean bear mother guiding her cubs toward a place where the forest can continue to thrive, far from the pressures of mining and human exploitation. It is a vision of hope and a reminder that protecting wild places is essential for the survival of future generations.

Beyond its conservation message, this painting holds a deeply personal meaning. It is inspired by my own mother, who passed away when my brother and I were very young. Although she was no longer with us, the values she instilled in us became a guiding force, leading us toward a better future. In many ways, the mother bear represents her enduring spirit—one that continues to guide, protect, and leave a legacy that transcends her physical presence.

This personal story is one of the reasons I chose to support Fundación Santuario del Oso de Anteojos. I deeply identify with its mission to protect the Andean bear and the cloud forests it calls home. I believe these extraordinary animals deserve to live freely in healthy ecosystems, where their future is shaped by nature rather than human intervention.
