Growing up along the coast of British Columbia, running along the shore, Emily developed a deep fascination and connection with everything that lived and breathed ocean. She would play with the kelp, admire the long tendrils of colourful jellyfish, and always keep her ears open for the sound of orca whales spouting. One of her fondest memories is leaning over the water’s edge on a rocky Gulf Islands shoreline as orcas rubbed themselves against the rocks below—so close she could almost touch them.
This lifelong fascination has inspired her to donate to the BC Whales Initiative, a Canadian non-profit that protects whales through acoustic monitoring, drone research, and community-based surveys along the BC coast. They work closely with First Nations and offer whale sponsorships that support conservation science and habitat protection. To learn more about their work please visit https://bcwhales.org
