GohHong- Painted Bronzeback

The Painted Bronzeback is a non-venomous snake and one of the more commonly seen species in Singapore. Last year, this little baby snake unintentionally came to my house for a visit. It was an amazing experience to be able to observe such a cute and tiny being up close and totally made my day. Other than its bronze colour, I really love the blue skin that is revealed when it inflates its scales, when threatened or when consuming prey. 

This artwork is from my ‘Scaled Down, Close Up’ series on miniature snakes of Singapore, which I hope will help to change people’s stereotypes and inaccurate perceptions of these highly misunderstood animals. 

The Painted Bronzeback is also one of snake species that ACRES commonly rescues. ACRES is a non-profit organisation in Singapore that promotes animal welfare and wildlife protection through various means, such as wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, and is fully dependent on public donations to sustain their animal protection work.
