I love birds, so Tottenham Hale seemed like the obvious place to live – marshes, wetlands, canals and rivers. Starlings, ducks, sparrows and swans, coots, moorhens, merlin and, my favourite, cormorants. Did you know that even though they're a water bird their feathers aren't waterproof? That's why they stand on the side of the water with their wings spread wide, drying in the sun (or wind, or rain). But, of course, London is what London is. Returning from the wetlands one Sunday morning This is in my path – right in the middle of the pavement on the bridge above the canal – a perfect slice across it's dome. No longer my favourite, just a cormorain't.
