Jessica Roberts- Hiraeth

This drawing is inspired by the Welsh mountain pony, a symbol of resilience and quiet strength. Set against an empty background, the pony exists in a space shaped by absence, reflecting the loss and fragmentation of natural habitats. The use of shadow hints at what is no longer visible, while also suggesting that these animals still endure, often unnoticed.

Rather than aiming for photorealism, I wanted the marks to remain visible, allowing the drawing to feel lived-in and vulnerable. The work is about survival, memory, and the delicate balance between human progress and the natural world.
