Joelle Cook- Island Marble Butterfly

The Island Marble Butterfly is a species with a fantastic story. It was rediscovered in 1998 on San Juan Island after being presumed extinct for almost a hundred years. While it is not extinct yet, it is in a precarious position. There is currently only one stable population on the island, so these butterflies need all the help they can get. In this artistic composition, the Island Marble Butterfly is paired with plants from its native prairie habitat where it is an important pollinator and indicator species.

A portion of the proceeds from this hand-carved linocut print will go towards the San Juan Islands Conservation District, which is one of the main organizations leading the work of protecting the Island Marble Butterfly.
