Kate Minelli- Barn Owl Night Light

3.5 inched wide x 4.75 inches high x 2 inches deep (when plugged in)

This cozy barn owl fam begins with a sketch that is transferred to a linoleum block, design and details are hand carved with care and precision. The linoleum block is inked with high quality opaque black ink and hand pressed onto 100% cotton heavy weight archival paper. The prints dry for about a week, are lightly sprayed with an archival UV protective coat, and are then carefully cut to fit a  steel nightlight skeleton. The hand pulled print is glued in place with a high quality, archival adhesive. This, in effect, creates a nightlight lampshade that fits over standard nightlight bulbs.  Each nightlight includes all of the pieces necessary to plug in and illuminate your space.

The proceeds from this night light will be donated to WildCare Inc - a small, local organization that provides premiere wildlife rehabilitation to sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife (goal that each individual reaches wellness enough to be released) - each year rehabbing between 1000 - 150 individuals! They operate on a shoestring budget (no state or federal funding) and are donation driven. They also provide important outreach programming. This piece is not specifically inspired by WildCare Inc, but rather I want the sale to support WildCare.  WildCare has long been close to my heart because of the service they offer the community and our native wildlife.  I myself have placed multiple injured wild animals in their care for rehabilitation and release - without them charging money for their incredible services.  I’d like to give back to them.

Kate works in a variety of mediums but the subject matter is always the same - each piece inspired by the incredible biodiversity with whom we share this Earth. This nightlight is part of a greater printmaking series depicting animal families. Ranging from walruses, whales, and bobcats to polar bears, hammerheads, flying fox bats, and the barn owls that you see here.
