Kate Minelli- Whale Ornament (blue)

4.75 inched wide x 3.25 inches high

This whimsical whale ornament is a true keepsake - to be enjoyed and passed through the generations. It begins with a sketch turned into a pattern, high quality felt is cut into pattern shapes, carefully hand stitched, delicate botanical motifs are hand embroidered on the whale’s body, it is stuffed with filling for a three dimensional effect, and a back is whip stitched to close the ornament. Six+ hours later, a whale is born. 

The proceeds from this ornament will be donated to WildCare Inc - a small, local organization that provides premiere wildlife rehabilitation to sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife (goal that each individual reaches wellness enough to be released) - each year rehabbing between 1000 - 150 individuals! They operate on a shoestring budget (no state or federal funding) and are donation driven. They also provide important outreach programming. This piece is not specifically inspired by WildCare Inc, but rather I want the sale to support WildCare.  WildCare has long been close to my heart because of the service they offer the community and our native wildlife.  I myself have placed multiple injured wild animals in their care for rehabilitation and release - without them charging money for their incredible services.  I’d like to give back to them.

Kate works in a variety of mediums but the subject matter is always the same - each piece inspired by the incredible biodiversity with whom we share this Earth. This ornament is a piece from her Flora and Fauna collection - each ornament depicts an animal and is carefully embroidered with botanical motifs.
