Kirsten Latimer- Living in Harmony

The final submission for the Art of Conservation is a majestic African Forest Elephant and an African Monarch. The trunk and front leg are texture that leaps off the canvas, embodying the details of wrinkles. African Forest Elephants are the smallest of the three living elephant species. These elephants reach maturity later (around 23 for their first pregnancy) and usually have 5-6 years between calves. Population recovery is slow because of this. The species is currently critically endangered with a decrease of over 80% of population over the last three decades. Partially collaged text reads “Living in Harmony” – a fine goal to strive for.
