Natalie Rose- Alligator

By the late 1960’s alligators were in danger of extinction due to poaching for hides
and habitat destruction. The Endangered Species Act was signed in 1973 and
outlawed alligator hunting. Southern states began developing recovery frameworks
that included a program that incentivized landowners to protect wetlands by
eventually allowing them to collect wild eggs, hatch them on commercial farms, and
return a percentage of healthy juvenile gators safely back to the wild.
The artwork was inspired by and incorporates the original vintage postal stamp. The
artwork started with a photo transfer to art paper. I used gouache paints, gel and ink
pens, stenciled patterns, art paper, and postal photo transfers to create the finished
collage.
