Natalie Rose- Polar Bear

The polar bear relies so much on the polar ice caps and the water for it’s food source
that it is classified as a marine mammal. Commercial fur harvesting and trophy
hunting decimated populations of polar bears leading to an agreement between the
five nations where polar bears live. In 1973, the US, Russia, Canada, Greenland and
Norway entered into the International Agreement on the Conservation of Polar
Bears. The treaty outlawed aircraft hunting, banned commercial trapping, and
successfully allowed global populations to rebound.

The artwork was inspired by and incorporates the original vintage postal stamp. The
image started with a photo transfer to art paper. I used gouache paints, gel and ink
pens, stamps, printed patterns, and and postal stamp photo transfers to create the
finished collage.
