Natalie Rose- Trout

Prior to the 1970s, it was standard practice to stock streams with artificially bred trout
to satisfy fishermen. But in the early 1970s,it was discovered that stocking hatchery
trout actually suppressed and damaged wild trout populations. Conservation efforts
changed their strategy to habitat restoration. Fighting the creation of dams, instream
flow laws and catch and release programs led to more thriving populations.
The artwork was inspired by and incorporates the original vintage postal stamp. The
image started with a photo transfer to art paper. I used gouache paints, gel and ink
pens, printed patterns, found objects and and postal stamp photo transfers to create
the finished collage.
