Naza Del Rosal- Over the River

“Over Ther River”, mixed media on llanchama, 160 x 76 cm. 2024.

This work was developed during an art residency in the Peruvian Amazon in which the forest became both material and mentor. The painting was made on llanchama, a traditional bark cloth from the community of Padre Cocha, and uses natural achiote pigment, revealing an encounter with the Amazon as a living network of relationships, not a landscape to be observed.

A vine reaches out across the surface, a symbolic thread of interconnection, implying that all forms of life, no matter how small, are part of the balance of the whole. The work does not provide answers, but invites a slower way of seeing, one that recognises biodiversity as a space of reciprocity, memory and shared belonging.

This piece was meant as a visual meditation on our responsibility, not as removed guardians of nature, but as part of its fragile and extraordinary web of life.
