Sara Redpath- Steller's Jay Mug

The provincial bird of British Columbia, the Steller’s Jay is the only crested jay found west of the Rockies. Not to be confused with the Eastern Blue Jay, Steller’s Jays are bold, territorial, and highly intelligent. They cache food, mimic other birds, and are recognizable for their blue body and dark crest.

The shifting blues of this mug are created with layered turquoise glazes that echo the changing colour of the jay’s feathers in the light. A hand-sculpted and painted Steller’s Jay perches on the side of the mug, as though deciding whether to stay for a visit or dart off somewhere else. Capacity approx 10 oz

This piece celebrates one of the West Coast’s most charismatic backyard birds. It is microwave and dishwasher safe, and careful handling is recommended to protect your new friend.
