Small vessel form with the imprint of Gingko leaves. Begun as a slab with leaves pressed into the clay. Shaped and folded into an organic form with flowing folds. The lines of the folds soft and wavelike create a sense of movement. This vessel was finished in a Raku firing. One example of the many plants that have a strong history of medicinal use. It Is also considered a living fossil. It’s genetic makeup unchanged, dating as far back as the Jurassic period, millions of years ago. A resilient, hardy, survivor, even surviving Hiroshima. Not surprising it symbolizes longevity along with hope and peace. A reminder of the importance of keeping our forests alive. Who knows what medicinal helper we might find next.
