I believe our planet’s biodiversity is far more valuable than precious metals, so I painted these Florida Bonneted Bat portraits with a glittery golden bronze glaze. I wanted to challenge the social stigma around bats with an adorable portrait. Bats are also such vital pollinators for our planet and deserve to be given a better perspective.

The Florida Bonneted Bat is the rarest bat species in the United States with an estimated less than 1,000 individuals in the wild. Very little is known about it, but the team at the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida is working hard to study the habits of this elusive bat in order to improve conservation efforts.

Its habitat is threatened by land development and natural disasters, such as hurricanes. Also, it’s the largest insectivorous bat with a wingspan of up to 20 inches!
