Tristan Ortega Rosales- Conejo de los Volcanes

Tristan Ortega Rosales (Hidalgo, Mexico, 2002) is a visual artist and printmaker whose practice is grounded in the rigorous construction and representation of form. Following an early training focused on structure, anatomy, and illustration, he entered the Bachelor of Visual Arts program at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo. His work has been featured in various collective exhibitions within the state's academic and cultural circuits.

This piece is born out of a deep fascination with the endemic fauna of Mexico's high-altitude forests, specifically inspired by the Volcano Rabbit, locally known as the teporingo. Currently facing a critical threat of extinction, this elusive species serves as a symbol of the fragile balance within Neo volcanic axis ecosystems.

Through a meticulous, hand-carved linocut process, the artwork explores visual storytelling and atmospheric perspective by layering the composition into distinct narrative levels. The rich, organic textures of the rabbit's fur contrast against the structured, dramatic landscapes of the mountains and clouds, inviting the viewer to contemplate the silent beauty and vulnerability of a species fighting to survive in its changing habitat.
